This will be the third anual Spring Escape involving a fishing contest. The first year when we had a contest the wind was blowing out of the west as 45 mph (72kmph). It was impossible for many boats to get out of Northern Harbour saturday morning. No Canadians participated in the fishing contest. Russ Warne won the contest with a walleye just over 18". The second year, last year, there were Canadians fishing and more U.S. members fishing both Firday and Saturday. Still, Russ Warne won the contest with a Walleye just over 18". Members anchored in Queen Island Bay Friday evening with the idea of having a fish fry for breakfast Saturday morning before fushing some more. We ate fish off the boats because it was too cold with a gentle breeze to start a fire on shore and not be too cold to enjoy being ashore. So we are fishg on the boats which is not quite the same. It must be noted that fishing was great on both days and many walleye were caught.

This year Russ Warne will be back to defend his fishing prowess. Will he win yet a third year in row? Will he be jinxed by owning a "fordy fotter"? Will a Canadian catch the longest walleye this year and win the contest? Will the wind god be calm. Will the temperature be warm so that we can have a great shore lunch or breakfast in Queen Island friday night or saturday morning? Come on Spring escape and find out first hand.

This year Spring Escape will try a new approach to the fishing contest. We will Start the Semi Serious Fishing Contest a day earlier on Friday. Fishing contest hours will be from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday. There will be a fish fry at anchor in Queen Island anchorage Friday evening. Escape members who did not make it to Escape on Friday will have an opportunity to fish in the contest continuing on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

The fishing contest area is not far from Crow Rock Resort or Queen Island Anchorage. Fishing area is marked out in green.

Remember there are two winners in the Escape Semi Serious Fishing Contest. The longest walleye caught and the shortest walleye caught over Friday and Saturday until Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Trophys will be awarded Saturday night after supper at Crow Rock Resort.
